Given the circumstances, Peter is doing well. He is still in the hospital, but has begun his rehabilitation.
Last week, in the night, a fire broke out on board of Ya. She was anchored in a bay near Batam, one of the Indonesian islands. Peter was asleep on deck, but woke up because he smelt smoke. Despite Peter’s attempt to put out the fire, the ship burned out and sank. Peter had to abandon ship and got to shore, where he went into the water to cool his body. Local fishermen called the house of Peters sailing friend Perry, and he brought Peter to the hospital. 30% of his body was hit by the flames, mostly resulting in 2nd degree burning wounds.
Inge is with him, medical staff is taking good care of him, and he is now working on his recovery.
